GOVT. KILPAUK MEDICAL COLLEGE
I still remember my first day in med school. We had a grand welcome by all the doctors of the hospital and the senior students. It was a day full of hopes and promises. We sat near our fellow classmates not knowing they are going to be our best friends forever. My college and my teachers moulded me to be a good doctor. Some enhanced me academically and some mentored me into the kind of person I am today. Of course, not to forget my fellow classmates, they moulded me too. We were a bunch of dedicated and fun loving students not afraid to try anything new. Many of our professors compliment us saying we know the right balance between academics and extra-curricular activities. Events like quizzes, cultural and social events, workshops etc., made our organisational skills better. I owe a lot to my college for making me who I am today. For being the place that nutured me. It has made me grow professionally and personally. It has certainly fulfilled my hopes and it's promises, more than I imagined.

Govt. Royapettah Hospital is affliated to Kilpauk Medical College and is like a second home to me. I have done equal rotations in both the hospitals and the faculties are very experienced and the number of cases admitted every day is very large. It was started in the year 1911, with Charles Donovan as the first Medical Superintendent. Charles Donovan, was reported to have first discovered the "donovan bodies" of leishmaniasis from the spleen of an infected boy in this hospital.

Kilpauk Medical College had its humble beginning in the year of 1925. It was originally a women's medical college until 1967, when the 'progressive' women students demanded the college to be converted into a co-ed college. It is highly specialised in BURNS care and many cases from various parts of the states are referred here. It is also one of the top 3 government tertiary care centers and very competitive to secure admission. It has offered me alot of lessons and wonderful memories.
